A Modest Proposal from a Pragmatic Democrat

The following is a table of US Senators facing re-election in 2006, by party and their votes on the Bankruptcy Bill. Consider these names significantly weakened. We should target them in their primaries. Left and right should work together and overthrow them. They work for corporations, not for people.

Update: Here's a pretty thorough overview of bipartisan blogosphere opposition to this bill from Glenn Reynolds.

Here is Tunesmith's Friday Action including... a table of all Senators who voted "yes" on the measure and their phone numbers.

I really believe that if we can scare the bejeezus out of the Senate, the House (all of whom will be up for election next year) will think pretty hard about whether they want to go home to their constituents and answer why they want to force more people into Chapter 13 bankruptcy when half of the people who seek bankruptcy protection do so because of medical expenses and about two thirds of the people currently in the Chapter 13 system fail to meet their court ordered payments and end up in Chapter 7 anyway.
