California Religious Right Goes Bonkers
You may have heard that a California appeals court has found that the state's domestic partnership law does not conflict with the state's ban on gay marriage.
Fair enough, right? Domestic partnership doesn't confer all of the rights of marriage and it is called something else. It has no federal weight at all.
The Religious Right, of course, disagrees with the court, and the disagreement marks a new phase in their losing war for the soul of America:
The Campaign for California Families had challenged the domestic partner law. Randy Thomasson, executive of the Campaign for California Families, said the group would appeal and move for another ballot initiative that would end domestic partnerships. What's interesting about this is that we now have a GOP proxy group pushing to remove non-marriage rights for gay couples. In other words, they're getting very honest with their agenda for America."This ruling gives impetus to the push for a constitutional amendment to protect marriage from the clutches of judges and politicians," Thomasson said.
In Randy Thomasson's America, gay people would become completely invisible, just like they were in the past. This isn't about "defending marriage", this is about dismantling any legal protection for gay and lesbian relationships. This is about moving America backwards and moving Americans back into the uncomfortable silence and isolation of the closet. It is despicable.
