American Suicide Bomber

An Oklahoma college student blew himself up Saturday evening near a stadium where some 84,000 people were watching a game. No one else was injured.

Michelle Malkin (who asks whether the bomber was Muslim while linking to a story that says he wasn't) is in a froth.

The 21-year-old engineering student grew up in reliably red-state Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Focus on the Family is headquartered. He then went on to attend college in an even more reliably red state, Oklahoma, which is Oral Roberts' home state and home of his namesake University.

Obviously, the bomber's exposure to Republicanism and Christian evangelism led him to want to kill lazy, sinful Americans. Or, perhaps, he was a suicidal engineering student in an era of suicide bombers, and he happened to get creative with his death and blew himself up near the stadium without ever having intended to go into it and kill people.

But if we want to just jump on the first option, that Republicanism and evangelical Christianity gave him equal parts bloodlust and incompetence, we can do that.

Update: Presstitues has more on the "controversy".
