Bush's Popularity Continues to Slide

Bush's popularity continues to slide, according to two new polls out this week. A CBS News poll made a lot of noise the other day when it showed Bush with a 35% approval rating, a several point drop from the previous poll.

Washington Post-ABC News now has its latest poll out:

On almost every key measure of presidential character and performance, the survey found that Bush has never been less popular with the American people. Currently 39 percent approve of the job he is doing as president, while 60 percent disapprove of his performance in office -- the highest level of disapproval ever recorded for Bush in Post-ABC polls.
Additionally, it shows that the CIA leak scandal has rocked the public's opinion of the President, who continues to employ at least one person who has acknowledged mishandling classified information.

I honestly didn't think it would be possible for Bush to fall this far. We can now say 'upper 30s' with some confidence, and also 'nearly 2/3 of all Americans disapprove of Bush's performance'. I never thought I'd see this in my lifetime. Even better:

Among independents, Bush's approval has plummeted since the beginning of the year. In the latest poll, 33 percent of independents approved of his performance, while 66 percent disapproved. In January, independents were evenly divided, with 49 percent approving and an equal percentage disapproving.
