Congress Responds to Kelo v. New London
I've liked every step of this process. First, the Supreme Court announces that it won't get between citizens and their local governments (victory for federalism and direct democracy), now the House has overwhelmingly passed a bill that would withhold economic development funds from states and municipalities that used eminent domain for economic development. In the article, we also learn that nearly half the states are considering changes to their eminent domain laws, presumably to strengthen the rights of property owners against takings, which is exactly what the Court recommended they do.
This is democracy at work. This is exactly the way the system is supposed to work. It's nice that it still does sometimes.
