Heads Should Roll
I'm strongly with John on this one. The issue isn't that the DC Dems can't block a SCOTUS nominee or that they can't capture the White House. The issue is that the rising generation of progressive Americans need leadership in Washington that can be effective.
The biggest problem facing Democrats is that they were the majority party for basically a half century, and the sense this gave them of being the natural party of leadership in America has prevented them from effectively cleaning house in the last decade.
The consultants have to go. The campaign specialists who sap every bit of individuality out of a cadidate have to go. But most importantly, the eldest members of the Democratic caucus in DC have to go because they continue to play business as usual. It isn't business as usual, and this isn't about partisan cheerleading. The United States of America is being changed into a place of gross inequalities and massive government intrusion in the private sphere. Our economy is at risk because of the disgusting spending habits of the Republican Party, while job security and health care in America continue to rank as primary concerns for the bulk of the population. The DC Dems have consistently been ineffective at reaching out to these needs or, worse, witting accomplices in the GOP's looting.
My generation of Americans needs a new generation of Dem leaders who were not bred in the luxury of the majority. We need fighting Dems with populist platforms and genuine anger at the DC coterie of gentlemen (and lady) 'leaders'. Let them run and they will win.
