Ladyfest South and the Continuing Destruction of my Sleep Cycle
Ladyfest South was an unqualified success. Dozens and dozens of artists and bands came, saw, kicked serious ass, and raised a lot of money for the Fund for Southern Communities and the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls.
Here are some bands seriously worth checking out:
8 Inch Betsy (Chicago)
Three 5 Human (Atlanta)
Oriflamme (Gainesville, FL)
Giddy-up, helicopter! (Tampa, FL)
Maggi, Pierce, and EJ (Philly)
BOX (DC)
Marla Hooch (NYC)
Everybody's got a MySpace (here's mine--see?) but I don't feel like linking to them all. Really, if you're looking for some new music to check out, any and all of the above are deserving of at least two listens.
I think the bands had a great time networking amongst themselves, and even a lowly poet like me hooked up some away gigs out of the whole deal. No complainin' here.
So perhaps you're wondering, now that my January 20 Art Amok is over and done with and my girlfriend's 4-day awesome extravaganza is wrapped up, whether we're looking forward to sleeping again?
Of course not. Tomorrow night we hit the road for Vancouver BC and the Individual World Poetry Slam. We can sleep when we're dead, and at this rate...

"An odd point of view to say the least."
