Just Go, Joe
Frankly, I think Joe Lieberman should go ahead and make the jump. If this report is true, a showdown over Iraq funding would do the job, but really, just go Joe. The Senate's already going to be basically useless for the next two years because of the GOP's filibuster ability, so I can't see the downside to a 50-50 Senate (with the ever-popular Dick Cheney casting deciding votes) going into '08.
Actually, having Dick Cheney cast the deciding vote to kill popular proposals seems like a real advantage going into '08. Twenty-one Senators up for election are Republicans, while only 12 are Democrats, and the public is clearly primed for a different approach to governance.
So go on, Joe. Switch parties. It would be the best thing you've done for the Democratic Party in years.
